Online College Prep English Composition

Thank you for your interest in our Online College Preparatory English Composition workshop, a powerful and proven Internet-based interactive curriculum designed to improve College Placement Test scores and prepare students for college level studies.

This workshop is a self-paced computer based distance learning composition course. Students utilize the World Wide Web, e-mail, and course news groups to fulfill writing and critical thinking assignments and intensive practice in written communication. Assignments include discussions on current issues, readings and critical responses, and a variety of writing responses which emphasize the writing process.

Our online workshop provides the widest possible access to students of all age groups who need college preparatory help-and it costs less than a traditional course. Our workshop fee is $150 and includes all instruction, testing, and course materials.

The goal of the workshop is to prepare students to pass their College Placement Test by developing the basic writing skills necessary for college-level courses and to supplement students' current critical thinking and communication skills. After completing the workshop, students will have gained the confidence and experience necessary to enter college level English and composition courses at universities and community colleges. What computer equipment is needed? You will need frequent access to a Mac or PC with a modem having a baud rate of 14.4 or greater and an Internet Provider.

What software requirements do I need? You will need to have a software browser such as Netscape 2.0 ( or higher) or Microsoft Explorer with a word processor program such as Microsoft Word, Works, or WordPerfect.

What technical skills are required? You must be comfortable using e-mail to communicate, including the ability to send documents as e-mail attachments. You should be familiar with surfing the Internet with a browser such as Netscape or Microsoft Explorer, including use of bookmarks and search engines.

What does it cost? The fee for the workshop is $100 and includes everything-all instructional materials, testing, and tutoring. A loaned Internet Terminal is available if needed for an additional $65 and must be secured with a credit card deposit.

Do I receive credit for the workshop? All college-preparatory courses are non-credit, whether or not you attend classes on campus or complete your remedial requirement through distance learning via a private provider.

How does my college know if I passed the course? Most institutions require some sort of "exit exam from remediation." After you have completed our workshop you can take that test and, when you pass, you may then begin college-level studies. Most colleges are requiring students to retake the College Placement Test as an exit exam.

What is the advantage to me? Our courses cost less, are self-paced to allow for accelerated progress, and are more convenient and flexible.

Can I take other courses at the Community College while I'm taking your Distance Learning Workshop? Yes, students can complete up to 12 credits in subjects other than those for the skills in which they are being remediated.
