Subject: an on-line forum adult learning and basic education in developing countries
The following report is distributed to NAAPAE Networks to promote
connections between our members and other groups that are part of the
International Council for Adult Education.
Dear ICAE members:
A message from Rosa Maria Torres:
We invite you to join an on-line forum on the current situation and future prospects
of adult learning and basic education in developing countries. The forum is
organized by SIDA (Swedish International Development Agency). It will be moderated
and conducted in English and Spanish. It will run for five weeks. Various alternatives
will be offered for participation and reception of messages. Log on at www.fronesis.org
<http://www.fronesis.org/> , click on the ENGLISH button on the lower
right side to get to the English page where you can sign in.
The study "Lifelong Learning: A New Momentum and a New Opportunity for
Adult Learning and Basic Education in Developing Countries", commissioned
by SIDA and done by Rosa-María Torres, will serve as a base document
for this on-line discussion. The document (English and Spanish versions) will
be posted soon at the forum web site. We will also send it as an attachment
to those who do not have access to, or have problems with, the Internet.
The forum will be open for anyone to join in. Special efforts will be made to
encourage the participation of people from developing countries, in Africa,
Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
We are sending this initial message to over one thousand people throughout the
world, many of them with a special interest in adult education and learning
(100 of them collaborated with this study, replied to a survey conducted in
2001 and/or were interviewed).
You will hear from us soon with more details about this on-line forum, how and
where to subscribe. This is an introductory message to let you know, touch base,
and test e-mail addresses and mechanisms.
PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE.
Regards,
Rosa María Torres
